It's been almost one hundred eighty years ago now since the Trail of Tears back in the 1830's.

Even after all that time; however, there are families today, from Georgia to Oklahoma, who bear the scars of that horrible event.

Some of these scars are borne by the families of the victims and some by the families of the perpetrators; both those who suffered under that U.S. Government program and those who carried it out.

And there are other residues of the Trail of Tears. there are ghosts found yet today of those who played roles in the Trail of Tears.

This book is a compilation of a few accounts of those ghosts. Some of them come from the oral histories of the Cherokee, the Chickasaw, the Choctaw, the Creek, and the Seminoles. They come to us from the margins of the yellowed and faded ages of old family Bibles, and from tales still told around kitchen tables here in the South.

Whatever their source, they speak to us, even as this book goes to print.
