Author, Donald Sizemore's deep interest in Cherokee culture was aroused as a child listening to his father's and uncle's stories about their family's Cherokee ancestry. Inspired by these stories, he has spent this life absorbing everything he could find relating to Cherokee culture and history, including books, art, photos, museum exhibits, private collections and correspondence with other Cherokee people. Much of his study concentrated on the styles and methods of making authentic Cherokee crafts and clothing. He has spent many years making such crafts and clothing for own use and enjoyment. Mr. Sizemore's purpose for writing his book is to record his extensive knowledge of traditional Cherokee dance and dance regalia so that he the old ways can be preserved for generations to come.
